Highlights of PMUN 2014

 

HIGHLIGHTS PMUN 2014

Presidium Model United Nations hosted its session of MUN in October, 2014 at Presidium, Ashok Vihar. True to the spirit of the United Nations, PMUN strived to foster a constructive forum for an open dialogue on complex global issues, including international peace and security and issues concerning economic and social progress. PMUN stressed on the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues.

The theme of PMUN 2014 was 'PRESIDIUM FOR DEVELOPMENT'. Over hundreds of Delegates from various branches of Presidium and other schools of NCR presented themselves in formal attire as young Diplomats, Ambassadors and Leaders of the next dawn. Delegates gained insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. It was an exciting opportunity for students to debate on issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues.

OPENING CEREMONY

Presidium Model United Nations 2015 commenced on Friday, 17 October 2014.. The Opening Ceremony began by welcoming and honouring the Secretary General (PMUN) Prachi Pahwa , who lit the stage with her earnest words. Saplings were then presented to our Chairperson, Ms. Sudha Gupta, Chief Guest Ms. Kathleen Stephens (Ambassador US) and Guest of Honour, Dr. Derick Hulme (Director, Alma College , Model UN).

A Guru Vandana, poetically woven through an expression of Kathak Dance was performed by Mr. Vineet Nigam which marked the auspicious beginning of the event.

Dr. Derick Hulme of Alma College spoke about the impact that Model United Nations has on students and expressed his happiness on seeing the enthusiasm amongst delegates.

Ms. Kathleen Stephens, US Ambassador addressed the gathering and spoke very warmly about the bilateral relations between US and India; envisioning a better future.

PMUN SOCIALS

Like the event the PMUN socials were as spectacular! Elegance and stylish aura created by the delegates through their attire was one of the highlights of PMUN’s sparkling evening. It was essential as delegates got the opportunity to get to know their fellow committee members from other schools. The evening paved the way for building bonding and long lasting friendships in the perfect ambience of good music and delectable cuisines.

CULMINATION

Right from conception to culmination our Honorable Chairperson, Ms. Sudha Gupta’s valuable presence was a source of inspiration for all and she was a guiding force behind the success of Presidium MUN 2014 . Mr. Jeff Abernathy, President, Alma College, Michigan, USA also shared his wonderful experience. He expressed his gratitude to Anna and his desire to continue a healthy and fruitful association with Presidium in the future as well. He shared his heartfelt and sincere gratitude to Ms. Sudha Gupta for her unconditional support, guidance and hospitality.

Participants were overawed by the framed memoirs. The award ceremony as always was the show stopper! With Awards in numerous categories starting with Verbal Mentions , Special Mentions ,Best Position Papers ,Best Delegates followed by the Secretary General Awards. There were various Awards in the category of the International Press as well.

'Whatever has a beginning must have an end'. However, we strongly feel that every culmination sets the ground to prepare for the next . We look forward to PMUN 2015 with higher benchmarks , greater enthusiasm and an event which will be spectacular not just in its grandeur but magnificent in the learning opportunities it will offer.
